Mama Mary Heard and Obeyed. God Challenged me to do the same during this wedding planning season. In fact, He wants us to mimic Mama Mary’s attentive obedience in every season of our lives! So how do you hear God? Mama Mary had an angel appear to her, but we don’t have that privilege very often! This question is on the mind of many Christians, even those who have been in the Church for most of their lives. Hearing God’s voice in your heart and spirit is the result of a process, or a practice that involves getting to know Him very closely. To know what He “sounds like’, we must know His will, His values, His ideas and words. The bible is the first place to look for all of these things! I like to think about hearing God’s voice as if I’m recognizing my husband’s voice in a crowded room. If I have just started dating or courting this man, I might not know his voice well enough to pick it out. It’s just a cacophony of noise! But after being together for several years, perhaps getting engaged, well, you can bet that I’ll hear his voice above the rest! And after 25 years of marriage, I could pick out his voice from any background noise possible. So it is with God – the more you know who He is, the more easily you can discern His voice among the noises of the world and your own heart and mind.
