Grunts and shouts filled the soldier radio network as Lamack and his team paused to shoot or hit an individual alien warrior during their fifty-meter charge. When Lamack saw the cannon crew notice the attack and try to traverse toward them, he paused and took aim directly at the alien crew. He quickly killed the gunner and two assistants nearby but sustained a hit in his left leg as well.
Raider saw Lamack go down and yelled, “Nooo!” then “Charge! On your feet! Go, go, go!” Screaming like a man possessed Raider leaped over piles of rubble, firing so fast anyone seeing would have thought he was shooting an automatic weapon.
The surviving members of Raider’s squad joined the sergeant as soon as he charged. The other members of their ad hoc company then followed their example. The sudden human wave overwhelmed the remaining aliens. The aliens refused to surrender and fought as long as they were able. Only killing them stopped their resistance.
“Corporal, I didn’t tell you to get shot.” Sergeant had set up a hasty defense around the captured cannon and then picked his way around the rubble and bodies to check on Lamack.
Lamack looked up from where he was sitting and grinned just as Lotai decided to land.

About the Book
An archeologist team that is part of Earth’s colony on Mars goes missing. Sergeant John Raider, a colonial brigade scout section leader, cannot find them. Shortly afterward, a mining team has an apparent accident in the asteroid belt that kills all but one miner. No one believes the rescued survivor’s story of an alien attack. Within a matter of days, aliens attack and abduct several scientists from an outpost on the planet. Sergeant Raider and his scout team are nearby, and the battle for humanity begins in earnest.

John House is a retired army colonel and part-time university instructor. He has written two nonfiction books on military topics and over three hundred opinion columns and articles. John and his wife, Marilyn, live in Midland, Georgia, and they spend their time helping several nonprofit groups and visiting children and grandchildren.
