About the Book

This is a book about six women to whom life has presented hurt, pain, tragedy, molestation, and rape, but they did not stop. They believed there was more in life than the difficulties that had presented themselves. These women are from different walks of life, but they all believed God had greater purposes and destinies for them. In this book, you’ll read about the injustices, hurt, and pain these women experienced, but they didn’t allow these to stop them from walking in their purpose and destinies!

About the Author

Born to Reuben and Doris Bloom, July 15, 1966, in a small country town, I was the third child, with two older brothers for a while. I was the first girl of four daughters born. We later moved to a college town about thirty-five miles away, where my daddy worked at a dairy full time. My mother was a stay-at-home mom. Over the years, our family grew from three to nine children.

On April 2, 1977, our family changed tragically and dramatically. My father was killed by a drunk driver. We later moved to Bryan. My mother bought a home, and we all moved to new schools. At the time, I was in the sixth grade, and it was a really difficult time. My mother was a single mom and the sole provider for all her children.

You must understand my history to know how important my family is to me and how the foundation was laid for my life. My mother quit school in the eleventh grade, when she became pregnant. The principal of her high school informed her that she was not a good example, and he thought it would be best that she quit and get her GED. My dad completed high school. He and my mother decided it would be best that they married, so they did.

I graduated from high school in May 1984. I enrolled in a community college for the fall of 1984.

When I was a young girl, I met this tall, dark, and handsome young man. His mother and my mother became the best of friends. During my high school junior and senior years, we dated. And in the fall of 1984, he asked me to marry him. The rest is history and now ‘her’story!

On December 15, 1984, I married my wonderful husband, Terrence Bernard Roberts. We were blessed with four wonderful children: Terrence Bernard, Benjamin Daniel, Christopher David, and Krystle Joy. We were blessed August 2, 2014, when our son Christopher married his sweetheart, Ivy Edgerson. On February 15, 2015, our son Benjamin married his sweetheart, Brittney Mack.

I did not complete college while my children were small. My husband and I thought it was important for me to be a stay-at-home mom until they all entered school. After our daughter entered elementary school, I started back to work as a teacher’s assistant at her school. For the last fourteen years, I’ve been on the front lines of social services as a case manager.

My husband and I decided that we would like to take some ministry courses together at a faith-based institute. In May 2015, we graduated with our bachelor’s degrees in faith-based crisis and family counseling. The following May, we each earned a master’s with a focus on faith-based family and crisis counseling.

We are members of the Brazos Valley Community Church of God, where we serve as adult Sunday school teachers, marriage couples ministry teachers, and praise and worship leaders. I also sing in the choir.

I love working with others to become the best they can be. I believe that all the circumstances in my life were vital for me to accomplish the destiny God has for my life, and they serve a purpose for others who have been in my sphere of influence.
