Not What I Was Made for
If the words I wrote could inspire,
I want to write those that could fulfill a desire.
A desire of such that was searched for,
To know Him who knows the sand grains among the sea shore.
It feels like there is nothing to hold on to,
I grab onto whatever I can find but everything I touch turns to dust.
Like the being I am I turn my back on You
Forgetting that You could heal with just one touch.
I keep my head held high only to prove I'm okay,
Hiding the pain till the end of the day,
Where in the dark again you find me alone worried about what tomorrow will bring.
While Your word instructs me not to worry about what comes with tomorrow.
All I can think of is all the sorrow.
This is not what You made me for,
I wish I could just have a glimpse of all that you have in store.
With every day comes a tear or two,
A fear that I should give to You
Still I hide my fears,
I try to stop my tears,
That's like telling the plants not to grow,
The stars not to glow
Animals not to breathe
And my heart not to beat.
You've helped me a thousand times before,
So why hold on to sorrow and even search for more.
When all I have to do is turn around.
To look to You where salvation will be found.

About the Book
I thought that once I found myself I would find God, but it was only once I lost myself that God had found me. I put this book together to tell its unique story. The great thing about poetry is that everyone understands it differently. The story of being found when you have no idea where you are is one of the most beautiful stories in the world. Broken down to the ground is barely scratching the surface of where I was when these emotions flowed from my heart, but having that turn around and changing into something beautiful is a story worth telling. My story is better told through emotion, and my emotion is exactly what this book contains.
About the Author
Rina-Anel Potgieter was born in a small town in South Africa called Heilbron and was raised in a Christian family. At the age of seven, her family moved to Gaborone Botswana, where she graduated from a Christian high school. Whilst living in Botswana, she had faced some life-shaking events. At a young age, she had come face to face with the hard good-byes in life. Her poems document her battles with herself, trying to let go of herself to let God take over.
