The uniqueness of this wedding is that Jesus was invited to the reception as an individual, something that most, if not all, couples often fail to do. They are comfortable with Him being in attendance at the marriage ceremony in Church or temple, but not the reception. The reception is a no, no area. And the reason is mainly that they feel they will not be free to have fun and enjoy themselves if He were present. The reasoning behind this, is because alcohol will be served. And they feel Jesus would frown upon this or worse still rebuke or condemn them for drinking. Too often we equate getting drunk to fun and enjoyment. In addition to this, they reason that He would not be comfortable where alcohol was served. Therefore, to prevent Him from the discomfort it is best not to invite Him. This would be commendable if it were true. But as we all know this is not so. Why else would He have attended this wedding celebration when wine was being served? Unless we assume that "wine" being served at this wedding was non- alcoholic. But was it?

John, the writer of the gospel of John, writes as though he were a reporter in that he uses four of the five Ws (when, what, where, and who) that journalists are taught to use in their articles. However, he does not tell us why, which is the missing W. The questions are as follows: Why did Jesus get involved? Why did the wedding happen on the third day? Why was this wedding special as to warrant Jesus’s involvement? Why in Cana of Galilee, of all places? Why was Mary there? Why did Jesus intervene by turning water into wine? If you want answers, you’re holding them in your hands.
