I thought about what possible purpose this kind of pain and agony could serve. What I discovered later was that this pain created a great fire of passion in me. I was Lindsey’s mom, and when she opened her eyes and looked at me, I knew that cognitively she was there and that she was telling me to believe in her. She was beginning to have a spiritual effect on me. The whole process was producing a positive passion for possibility, and the power was in my control. She needed me. Her desire to thrive, survive, and continue to make progress, despite all of the setbacks, was heartwarming and inspiring. I had to become her strongest advocate, but I had no idea of what that looked like or how to make it happen. And as we walked together, I discovered how much I needed her, too.

About the Author
As a teacher for thirty years, Karen Garvin mentored and nurtured children from all walks of life in various kinds of educational environments. She felt the Lord calling her to write her unique story about motherhood, hoping that it would encourage and inspire others to deepen their relationship with God and their children. She and her husband, Jim, reside in San Antonio, Texas.
