Our Pain, God’s Purpose

At the time of my painful experience, I was 38-years-old, a married woman with two children. I was an active minister in my church. The experience I am about to share came as quite a blow to me; a dream with a wakeup call. The experience was an affair that involved a 22-year-old young lady at my church that I was entrusted to work with by one of my pastors. Because of my professional experiences working with youth and my position in the church, one of my pastors entrusted me to help a young lady at my church walk through some of her sexual orientation issues. I had never worked with anybody on this issue, but I was fully aware that I too had struggled with same-sex desires in the past. The experience was painful because it involved someone I was to guide and mentor. Instead of guiding her, it led me somewhere I never thought I would be. It led me face-to-face with a side of myself I never thought existed, my humanity. Before this experience, I never thought I would be capable of having an extramarital affair with a young lady more than 10 years my junior. However, I had to come to terms with the fact that I had the ability to do more evil than I thought possible. It is not that I had not sinned or disappointed anybody before, but this particular experience led me to see that I was more selfish than I realized. I came to believe that I can actually hurt and betray the people I loved. It was scary. The thing is, I really came to know that I could sacrifice anything/anyone to meet my own selfish desires. I had a desire and I forgot all promises, commitments, and vows I had made. All I wanted to do was meet my needs and not think about the people that needed me or the trust they placed in me.

To write this book, she connected with other amazing women who shared about times in their lives when they overcame a personal life experience. In so doing, these women often found the purpose behind the pain and, despite the difficulty, were able to move forward in life. Nivischi enjoys focusing on the positive things of life and believes that even in painful experiences, there is a purpose and a plan. She loves to travel and often finds serenity basking in the beauty of creation by the ocean. While spending time in relationships with others is essential to Nivischi, she thoroughly enjoys spending time by herself.
