Kavanna, Mermaid Angel of the Ocean

Kavanna hears a man’s calm voice say “the rain will start early tomorrow morning but by noon the sun will be shinning bright,” and then there was crackling and all was quite. Dare she slip well under the boat so her tail would not splash? She really wanted to listen to what the people on the boat were saying. Through the years Kavanna listened to tales of families sojourning to lands far away so their children would have a new start. Listening to stories of kings that just wanted more taxes paid to them, and stories of famine and destruction was common to hear, for centuries. She would come as close as she dared and listen so intently, learning about the humans and how they managed through the day, and through their lives. Too many times she had seen the war ships battling and many bursting apart and sinking deep into the waters. Diving deep she could see the helpless and she prayed for them. She would scout the sea’s floor for any fish that were hurt and try to help them. Fortunately the giant shadows and the noise from the war machines sent most fish hurrying to get far away.

Once a giant ship with smaller boats fastened to the side was headed for a place that Kavanna recognized as a problem, and she realized why she was sent on this mission. The intense cold waters she navigated would not even bring a shiver to the mermaid angel. She knew the mountains of ice under the waters would go undetected by human eyes and she was not shocked at the horrendous cracking sound when the ship and an iceberg connected. Kavanna was ready as she watched the people finally lower the smaller vessels and help people escape.
