The King and the Dragon

"Once upon a time there was a King. He was a good King. He was gracious and merciful, just and brave. In his Kingdom there was justice and peace for all. His Kingdom was a luscious, green, fertile valley surrounded by rugged snow-capped mountains. In the center was a lake, clear as glass, shimmering in the sun, and flourishing with life. The people cared for each other. They worked together with their King to make sure everyone had everything they needed and more. Never was there a thought of fear, envy, or violence. Instead they enjoyed being neighbors, and they loved one another. Life was good and everyone loved their King.

Ahh! But you see, there were beasts in the mountains. They were controlled by the greatest beast of all, the Great Dragon. Now the people knew of the beasts and the dragon, but so long as they remained with their King, they were safe. Their King protected them. Then one day the Great Dragon made his move. He flew down from his mountain lair and landed on the King’s palace. Then his lies began. He cried out to the people “Your King has bewitched you! He has lied to you and enslaved you. Come with me and taste true life. Bow to me, and I will set you free!”
