What would it be like in this world, if there were no Christians, or anybody
with a hint of love for God? Would it be chaos? Would it be Hell? Have you
ever gone into a cave, far enough to not be able to see even a hint of light,
and distinguish all light sources? This is a new kind of darkness. You can’t
even see your hand before your face. I’m not sure that even night vision
goggles would work there. If you were left there without a light source, you
could potentially never get out, depending on the cave. It is even colder in
caves, because of the lack of light. That is what our life is like when we do
not have a presence of God. There are some that will say they live a life
without God, but I say, if there were nobody around you that had some
faith in God, your life would most likely be miserable. Jesus Christ is our
light source, and gives us the vision to see, and the comfort of warmth, in
knowing we’re cared for. No matter how little we keep Him in our hearts,
His light will shine through, and provide light for others, to see. Will you
allow Christ’s presence to shine through you today, and make someone
else’s life a little better, and help them see?
Lord Jesus Christ, You are the source of all that is good in this world,
May I never fear or waiver in shining Your light, so others may see more
clearly, and feel the warmth of Your presence.

Have you ever found out someone else’s wages at work, and wondered
why they are getting what they are, and you are getting what you are? It’s
never fun when they are making the same, or more than you, when you
have been there longer, and doing the same or similar work. When you
started, did you agree to the wage? Did it seem fair to you then? Why do
we obsess over things like that? Why do you suppose employers don’t want
you to talk about your income? It causes disruption. We even struggle with
the thought of someone changing their life at the last minutes, and God
forgiving them, just as He did for you, a long time ago. Why should we
worry? Isn’t Heaven, Heaven? Your life was enriched because you had the
opportunity to serve others for a period of time, and they didn’t have that
same opportunity. Isn’t there joy and satisfaction in serving others? Isn’t
that the part of this life that gives us peace, and purpose? What do you do
to give your life purpose in this world that involves serving people? Do
you still need to find that?
Lord Jesus, fill me with your Holy Spirit that I may serve you joyfully
and serve my neighbor willingly with a generous heart, not looking for
how much I can get, but rather looking for how much I can give.

Are you married? Was God a part of your wedding? I have attended quite
a few weddings in my life time, some in churches, some at a courthouse,
and some outside. The ones I remember the most, there was a strong
emphasis on God being present in the marriage. We were married at a
young age, and in a Catholic Church, and I wasn’t Catholic at the time,
but Nita was raised Catholic. I remember the reading from Genesis 2:24,
“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and
the two of them become one flesh.” No one ever said marriage was easy,
but it seems like it doesn’t take a lot to destroy a marriage anymore. Why
are we so quick to move on and not remember that marriage is like our
relationship with God? Don’t we grow stronger together when we survive
the rough parts of life? What if you threw God away, because He had you
go through a struggle in your life? I know some people who have. Isn’t our
relationship with our family, a microcosm of our relationship with God?
Nita and I, even have some of the same thoughts now. Friday night as I was
driving home, I thought we should go to Bona Casa (a local restaurant) for
supper, and when I got home, she asked me if I wanted to go to Bona Cass
for supper. Is that what it means to become one flesh? Does your marriage
reflect your relationship with God?
Lord, thank you for the blessings of marriage. May You continue to
bless our time together.

Do you know the joy of our loving Father? Can a person truly live without
God in their lives? I know there are people that do not believe in God,
and seem to live a happy life on earth, but do they know true happiness?
Thomas Aquinas said: “No one can live without joy. That is why a person
deprived of spiritual joy goes after carnal pleasures.” Does a person without
God find joy in carnal pleasures? Is that where their joy comes from? What
is the purpose of a life, if not lived for God, and the eternal Heaven that
is to come? I understand that people that don’t believe in Heaven, do not
believe in Hell either, but then what is the purpose of this life? If it is to
be good to your fellow man, then what is to be gained, except maybe a
better fellow man? Isn’t it easier to also be evil to your fellow man, since
there are no real consequences except maybe death, and a final farewell?
Wouldn’t the world be a better place, if all knew a loving God and eternal
peace to be gained in Heaven? If all knew God as Father, and creator of
all mankind, wouldn’t we all be better off, or is that Heaven?
Lord, I am sometimes anxious for the Heaven that is to come, but I
know it will all be in Your time. May I continue to grow in love for You,
and show others that same Love.
