Everyone tried to tell me that it was new baby nervousness, but I never accepted that. In my heart I knew something was wrong. Even my doctor did not believe me, but I knew. After many tests and examinations, I finally received the diagnosis that Deneen was severely retarded, which was the term used back then. She was also diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and her life expectancy was not to exceed twenty-one years. Deneen defied the odds. Not only did she live twenty-one years, but she lived forty four years. The morning sun is entering my dining room in all its glory, and I remember the pain I felt upon hearing the devastating news of her medical condition.

This book was written as a day of reflection that allowed the author to share the truths of God’s Word, which sustained her throughout the years of various challenges while caring for her special needs daughter. Focusing on these truths is where she received comfort, support, and encouragement. In her reflection, the author emphasizes that this same comfort, support, and encouragement is available to all who are in need and especially for those who share a similar task of providing care for a loved one who has special needs.
