Pointing a gnarled finger into Maddie's chest, the old man smiled weakly, showing black, tobacco stained teeth, "Look for the followers of Molech, they will come for you," he choked, "they'll find ya' the same way they found me." Maddie leaned closer, to hear his dying words. Her hair fell over his face and chest, shielding him from the morbidly curious. What he whispered to her in those final moments remained a secret that she never shared.
"Poor guy, probably didn't see what hit him," the attendant said as he closed the dead man's eyes. "Did you know him?"
"We've only seen him twice before in our lives," I said with a shake of my head. "He was at a street rally we attended and scared us both half to death." "How did this happen?" Madelyne sobbed.
“He came from nowhere. Came out of the alleyway over there," the driver said, pointing to a dark alley sheltered on both sides by brick buildings. A dumpster sat prominently on the corner and was heaped to overflowing. "He charged out of there without looking and rolled that thing,” the driver continued, gesturing to the wheelchair, “right into my lane of traffic. He threw a bottle at my car. There, do you see my windshield?" he asked those around him. "Old man must have been drunk or something. The bottle shattered and cracked the window clear across my line of vision. I was on him before I could stop.”

About the Author
Sheila Milam is a Christian author who gets inspiration from life experiences. She uses "a little fact, a little fiction, and a lot of prayer" to weave stories based on events that change the lives of those who lived it. It isn’t just writing the story, but a reaching into the hearts of the broken so healing can begin. Milam's writing was recognized by the Idaho Writer's League when she was presented an award for her novel titled, Sparring Partners. Her writing talent was recognized in college where she was encouraged to write longer narratives that eventually turned into novels. She enjoys the world of fiction where characters take on a life of their own, weaving an intricate path that the author is invited to follow. She and her husband live in the Silver Valley, a beautiful area nestled in the mountains of North Idaho where moose visit your backyard and elk nibble on the grass.
