Tuesday Morning Victoria hurriedly dressed in her oldest dress and crept downstairs to get her chicken and egg lesson. Marvin was still doing the milking to give Millie the extra time she needed, but tomorrow Victoria would learn.

Millie stood a few seconds at the cage door. "First lesson, do not show fear and do not let your skirt drag the ground." Victoria looked down and understood the second part of that lesson. Then she came face to beak with the rooster, Kilroy, and she tried to obey the first part.
He was big. He was proud. He strutted. He had no fear. He did not want Victoria in his home.
Kilroy strutted to one side, and then the other, never taking his eyes off Victoria. Just as he looked like he might do something ornery, Victoria said in her loudest voice, "Boo!"
She wasn't sure if her shout had scared him or if it was the loud burst of laughter from Millie. The rest of the lesson went off without a hitch and the women went to the house with a full basket of eggs.
It was now Victoria's chore each morning until she left. Millie had no qualms.

At breakfast, Millie related the story for everyone, and if Kilroy knew what caused the roar from the house, he would have been even more mortified than he was already.
