Leadership can be taught, but it is up to the individual to want to be more than he may currently be. The saying “Birds of a feather flock together” is definitely accurate. If you do not believe in your own potential to be more than what you are, stop for a second and look at those surrounding you. Do the people around you desire to be more than what they are, or are they content just getting by? What has always made the United States of America a great country is equal opportunity. Somewhere along the way, that viewpoint was drastically skewed until we ultimately found ourselves in a divided culture where equal rewards are desired for unequal work. If equal rewards are not available, a plethora of terms are bandied about until someone gives in to the politically correct mindset. In a system of equal rewards, what motivation is there for the cream to rise to the top? How can a leader evolve in a system where everyone reaps the same harvest? These are difficult times we are living in.

There is a common perception that leaders only exist in an organizational structure, but this viewpoint does a disservice to the role of spouse, parent, and friend. A few simple principles that make a leader successful in the professional world, are the exact same principles that should be employed in the personal world as well. It is not a coincidence that these principles find their roots in Scripture, and their examples set by the most popular biblical figures.
