Your self-image is developed over time and is an accumulation of your ideas, your thoughts, your experiences, what you have accepted over time from others, and other variables which have become ingredients in the recipe of who you have become as a person. When that self image is damaged or off center, when that self image is infected from the negative standpoint, it will always cause you to misjudge your ability and ultimate potential to win and achieve success.
