Hope for a Rainy Day

In times of wars, rumors of wars, famine and moral dilemmas; I often wonder is there still time to dream, is there any Hope for a Rainy Day? As I keep one eye on the clock and the other on the bank account I often wonder if my dreams will ever come true.

Every natural sign points to dead ends with no U-turns allowed. I watch with anticipation trying to contemplate how, when, where; will the break- thru emerge. Also I wonder what part should I play or not play in making this happen. I query myself; should I knock on every door or should I just pray? As I wait for my break-thru with anticipation I ponder on the scripture “that my gifting will make room for me”. Unfortunately, the only room I see is empty, void, and vacant.

To make matters worse I open today’s papers and the headlines read like the book of Revelations; announcing homicides, genocides, suicides, famine, and droughts.

I am earnestly holding to my truth that I have professed every affirmation. I have read every scripture. I have faithfully paid my tithes, sowed seeds, named and claimed, blabbed and grabbed, and nothing absolutely minimum less has happened.

At one point I even dared to dream that the angels were being told to release my stuff. My angels have ascended to get my stuff, but for some reason they are having some technical difficulties with the descent.

So I cried out to God, “What’s next?” “What to do now?” His response to my questions were, “Wait”. Now, my first reaction to his answer was to get mad. This simple word “wait”. Then I turned to Webster dictionary in order to gauge how mad I needed to be, but Webster informed me that I simply needed to “stand steadily with expectancy; expect with confidence.”

Now my concern was how? How do I wait? What do I do while I wait?

So in my wilderness experience (the wait) I looked for words of encouragement.

Like the Psalmist David says you have to encourage yourself.

This quest for encouragement led me to my “faith file”. In 1998 I heard a preacher ministering on “Prayerfully Handling a Situation beyond your Control”. In his sermon he spoke of looking back in order to go forward. Therefore, ever since then I have kept a faith file. It is a record of those things that God has already answered.

I have noticed in those times that God is the quietest it is seemingly the hardest for me. Although I may not feel his presence I can be confident that he is yet good and God. He asks no one for permission or a schedule for the task at hand, He simply asks one thing from you and me that is to; believe.

“And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.”
