A covenant is different from a contract. It is a promise between entities in which both parties agree to hold up their ends, regardless of whether the other party keeps his or her part of the agreement. A violation of a covenant by one party doesn’t matter, as far as the other party’s responsibility to continue to do what he or she agreed to do. With a contract, if one party does something in violation of the contract, then it is considered broken.

God is not contractual. He is a covenant God. God, by His oath, promises that He will do His part—always.

The next time you see a rainbow, remember and believe that God fulfills all His promises—always.

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
