The sacraments of Christ have been ordained so that we would have a deeper relationship with God, that we would know more fully the doctrines of Christianity, and that we would become mature in a Christ and a new creation.
In our discussion, we will seek to know more fully the reasons the Christ instituted His sacrament and the impact that the sacraments should have on the believers, the Christian church, and the world in general.
Our purpose is to identify and to understand the sacraments of Christ so that our lives, our witness, and our worship will be more pleasing to God.
We shall discover the necessity of the sacraments as well as their relationship to Christian doctrines.
God has reasons why we should be baptized: God has reasons why we should celebrate the Eucharist.
We need to understand those reasons.
If the sacraments are important to God, then surely they must be important to us.
In the course of our enquiry, we will examine the sacraments as they contribute: first, to our relationship with God; second, to the necessity of the sacraments; third, to their relationship to the major doctrines of Christianity; fourth, to our becoming mature in Christ.
We begin with the recognition that: first, the sacraments reflect the Old Testament covenants; second, the sacraments reflect the will of God for our lives; third, the sacraments have eternal meaning for every believer.
The sacraments are instituted to bring us closer to God.

About the Book
The book addresses the important relationship between the covenants of the Old Testament and the sacraments of the New Testament. From years of experience, it seems that the sacraments of Christ are not well understood in terms of their purpose, their importance in our daily lives, or for the reasons that Christ instituted them. Christ baptizes with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Christ instituted baptism for our public acceptance of Him; He instituted the Eucharist for our remembrance of Him. The sacraments also relate to all the great doctrines of Christianity. Our constant attention to the sacraments will bring us ever closer to God.
About the Author
William H. Wetmore graduated from Duke University and Lehigh University and had a successful career in engineering science, primarily in teaching and in basic research. He was a member of the faculty of Lehigh University and UCLA before becoming a division director in basic research at the National Science Foundation (NSF). After retiring from NSF, he served as associate dean of engineering at West Virginia University. He is the author of eight books: Him We Proclaim; God’s Hidden Treasures; The Parables of Jesus; You Must Be Born Again; Our Father, Who Art in Heaven; Freedom: The Epistles to the Galatians; Because of Love, He Came….; The Gospel: Love Divine; and The Cross of Christ. He teaches Bible studies on a broad range of theological subjects.
