About the Book

Southern Roots, History of the Coody and Thomas Families, Volume I, covers the first six generations from the present to approximately 1794. It is an in-depth research of my Coody and Thomas ancestors that includes photographs, biographies, stories, and information that clearly defines my Coody and Thomas history. Our family is as diverse as it is large. My whole purpose is to tell the story of my ancestors, their triumphs, failures, their love of country, and their love for God. There are those who made major impacts and contributions to our nation’s history and then there are those who quietly gave their all, and those that screamed their allegiance to their country and God.

About the Author

A warrior for most of my life. I was raised in Northwest Louisiana in the small town of Bossier City, just a stones throw from Shreveport.

When I was boy I would spend a lot of summers in Martin, Red River Parish, Louisiana. I would always tell everyone I was helping my grandfather in the cornfields by pulling what I thought were weeds and grass, in-fact, it was actually the young corn I was pulling. Henry Allen Thomas, my grandfather assured me it was corn not grass, by persuading my attention with a razor strap across my backside. Henry loved his grandchildren, but he could be cantankerous, that was part of being a Thomas.

When I lost my father in a vehicle accident at the age of 16, my whole world was turned upside down. Had it not been for my mother's brother, Henry Edwin "Bully" Thomas things could have been a lot worse for me and my family. If ever there was a man that could resolve my problems as a young man, he was my savior. I took his advice and made the United States Air Force a career for over 22 years. My experiences the past 68 years have made me a warrior for my God, my Country and my Family. I am proud to be an American and I am proud to be veteran for my country and above all I am proud to be a warrior for God.
