Dad continued his story, "I was able to secure a job as a wiper with a company that sailed along the coast loaded with "props" (wood cut into pieces to be used in mining). One day when I was working in the engine room with the Engineer he said, "I'm going to have coffee with the Captain." As the Engineer left, he slammed the door behind him leaving me locked in the engine room alone. A short time later, the engine started to sputter and cough. I looked at the gauges, valves and pipes around the engine and I didn't see anything amiss, so I prayed for God's help. As my eyes were scanning the engine room, they were drawn to a valve up at the ceiling and an inaudible voice within me was saying, "turn that valve." As I turned the valve, I heard the engine return to a steady rhythm again. I gave thanks to the Lord for His help and protection.

About the Book
This is the story of a boy born on the Færoe Islands three weeks after the death of his father. He was raised by his older sister. His Mother had ten children and couldn’t provide for all of them, so she sent some of the older children to family members. At twelve years old the boy was taken to Norway by his sister to work as a crew member on his older brother’s fishing boat. He met a young lady that won his heart, then had to endure an eleven-year engagement because of the Great Depression. Through Correspondence courses and apprenticeships he became a Marine Engineer. He emigrated to America and worked on tankers along the East Coast of the United States. This man was my father who endured many heartaches and physical challenges, but never lost faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
About the Author
Evelyn Henriksen Haglund is the mother of three grown children and grandmother of five. She earned her Diploma in writing from Institute of Children’s Literature. She wrote an article for a Christian magazine that was published. She worked in a Christian school for inner city children. She writes about a subject close to her heart, her Dad.
