1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
The very first line of the Bible is a recorded miracle. (The verses following this go into further detail of that creation.) Out of nothingness, God created the universe. Those who do not believe in God or His written word ascribe the creation of all things to the “Big Bang Theory” (which states that our universe suddenly sprang into being from what scientists call a singularity). Prior to that, neither matter, energy, time, nor space existed. As to what this singularity is however, they are at a total loss. Though scientists will allow for creation (in fact, a scientific violation of the First Law of Thermodynamics which states that matter/energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only altered), many will not allow for a Creator of that Big Bang. It just somehow happened all on its own as an effect without a cause.
The very premise of something forming out of nothing in the absence of an outside influence is scientifically unsound. Further denying divine causation after the initial Big Bang, the Darwinian evolutionists declare all life that ever existed resulting from that Big Bang, including humanity, was merely (to borrow a phrase from Matthew Henry) a “fortuitous concordance of atoms.” The infinite and intricate interrelationships we see all around us in the physical universe today, from mighty galaxies to the tiniest ecosystems, all happened under purely natural influences by chance, they insist.
In Systematic Theology, Charles Hodge writes “No man can believe this, who cannot also believe that all the works of art, literature, and science in the world are the products of carbonic acid, water, and ammonia.” Furthermore, he adds: “It is enough to remark concerning these theories, (1.) That they leave the origin of things unaccounted for. Whence came the matter, which the theory in one form assumes? Whence came its physical properties, to which all organization is referred?” Order does not result from chaos. Order descends into chaos. Corruption and decay are the natural order of things, not purification and perfection (see Second Law of Thermodynamics which states that the quality of matter/energy deteriorates over time). This reverse-evolutionary notion that all things can come together in such perfect harmony with each other to attain perfection, simply by random interaction over time—without the intervention of a guiding intelligence—is illogical. The simple fact is that, the universe was created by an Intelligent Designer, the One God, and He is that Singularity that they will not acknowledge as such.
