DeVonna was so excited about her map to Heaven, which her mom had drawn for her. That afternoon, she read it and studied it. In fact, when DeVonna laid down for her afternoon nap, she held on to it as she snoozed. DeVonna dreamed that she and her friend, Faith, were together. In the dream, the two of them decided they were going to Heaven.
Faith exclaimed DeVonna. Look what I have! My mom drew me a map to Heaven! Let me see that, DeVonna, Faith responded. I've never seen a road map to Heaven before! Are you sure that what your mom drew for you? DeVonna replied, Sure I'm sure! I asked my mom how a person gets to Heaven. She told me but thought I would understand it better if she drew it out for me as a road map. Do you want to go to Heaven with me, Faith? asked DeVonna, I'm on my way there now. Alright DeVonna, let's do it!
The two girls looked at the road map, began following instructions and started on their journey to Heaven. DeVonna saw in the map guide the number one thing a person had to do, to get in Heaven.
DeVonna said, Faith, you have to have a license to get to Heaven. Do you have one? No, Faith answered. But neither do you! Yes I do, responded DeVonna. Well, how did a little girl get a license? asked Faith. DeVonna said, I'm not talking about the kind of license a person uses to drive a car with, I'm talking about SALVATION. Salvation, what is salvation? asked Faith. Salvation means to be saved. That is what I am talking about; being saved, Faith responded DeVonna. Saved from what? asked Faith. Saved from eternal death in Hell, DeVonna answered. It means that you have become a part of Jesus Family and live in Heaven and when you die you will live in Heaven, explained DeVonna..
Faith asked, “How did you get your license? I mean this (becoming a part of Jesus' family) how did you do that? What does getting saved mean? I said and believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross to save me from my sins. I prayed and asked Him to forgive me of all my sins and to live in my heart and to be my Lord and Savior. What does all that mean, DeVonna? asked Faith. It means that I believe what the Bible; God's Word says. Since, I believe in what the Bible says, I try really hard to do what it says to do! That's what it all means, Faith.

‘DeVonna is curious about the “Heaven” that she has heard about for most of her life, both at home and in church. In order to resolve her curiosity about this “Heaven”, DeVonna asks her mom the ultimate question. “Mama, how do you GET to Heaven?” With a map in her hand, accompanied by her best friend, Faith, DeVonna sets out on an adventure and discovers how to get to Heaven.’
About the Author
Veronica Watford is a native of North Carolina. She and her husband, Ornando have two children. Her greatest passion has been being a wife and mother. She serves in her community working with children, adults and families, helping to support and promote healthy lives, relationships and communities. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, from North Carolina Central University and a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. She uses mentoring, positive family and community supports, faith, and unconditional love to encourage and support people in building and maintaining great relationships with themselves, family members, and the community.
