A Mom After God's Own Heart

Through the years Ihave always kept a prayer journal. I'm not sure if it truly qualifies as a prayer journal, but it was a book that I poured my heart out to God. Sometimes they were just thoughts I wanted to share with him, and other times they were praises or petitions I was bringing before him. I had a section for each one of my children.

Fast forward twenty years and twenty prayer books later, and my oldest son is getting married. I am sorting through old photos and books. I get lost in the memories of old notes and photographs, which is probably why I never pretend to sort through and throw things out! I come across my first prayer book and flip to the section with my baby boy's photo on it. My little boy, all grown up now, getting married next week. And then I see it. The memory comes flooding back to me.

My little boy is three years old. I'm tucking him into bed for the night. "Mommy, I love you so much. When I grow up I am going to marry you." He throws his arms around me. I can smell that fresh bathed baby smell still clinging to that space between his neck and his ear. I tell him I love him soooo much, but I'm already married to daddy. But somewhere out there is a little girl, who is growing up with her family. God had already picked her to be his wife. As we say our prayers we pray for this little girl, wherever she is, that God will protect her and guide her and that she will love Jesus, just like my little boy.

That night before I went to bed, I wrote in my book a special prayer to God for this little girl that would capture my son's heart. Tears come to my eyes and I have a huge lump in my throat. "So God, this is the lttle girl you were watching over." I thanked God for leading me to find this prayer at this time. I had completely forgotten about it. God fulfilled my prayer all those years ago. The woman my son was to be married to loved Jesus with all her heart. What a faithful God! I read this prayer from my journal at their wedding.
