In the Hebrew Scriptures, justice and love are not opposites. In this perspective, it is impossible to seek love without justice. To practice, permit, or allow injustice is to destroy love. An unjust society is characterized by trampling upon others, the opposite of loving our neighbors as ourselves. Following the order of justice under the laws of God produces in a society the highest fulfillment and harmony between human beings. Mercy may be offered for the truly repentant, but the unrepentant are to be brought to justice! The Hebrew Scriptures constantly enjoin the rulers to give themselves to righteousness by bringing justice! The solution to the human miscarriage of justice is not to do away with the process of judgment, but it is to bring this process under the standard of God through righteous judges! What is justice? It is simply God’s righteous order for humanity. It is life under His rule. It is not humanistic equality where differences of gifts, roles, wealth, and calling are eliminated. It is equality before the courts.

About the Book
We read of the Messiah in Isaiah 42—“He will bring forth justice for truth. He will not fail nor be discouraged, till He has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands shall wait for His law.” If what these verses describe is the orientation of Jesus, it should be ours as well. If justice is to be established on the earth, His followers must be a community of love and justice. Since the first publication of this book in the early 1990s, we still have not seen a shift in the Body on the issues of character standards, congregational discipline, due process, and discipleship. Dallas Willard and others have written passionately about discipleship and its foundation in obeying the commandments of Jesus. Yet discipleship is rare, and the definition of love as indulgence is increasing. Love itself is wrongly defined, along with forgiveness, leading the indulging people into sin. May God use this book to make some contribution toward the path of righteousness.
About the Author
Dr. Daniel Juster served as director of Tikkun International, a network of congregations and ministries around the world. He is an internationally acclaimed speaker, teacher, author, and theologian. He is a professor at King’s University in Dallas and is very involved in efforts of unity and dialogue with Messianic Jews and the church. He and his wife reside near Jerusalem.
