Eulogy from our history: prayer for our present.
In memory of all of our loved ones who have died due to AIDS, liver disease, lung cancer, domestic violence, suicide and drunk drivers, to name only a few. For those who have committed suicide because of PTSD from abortions or war: those who were murdered in hate crimes against homosexuals; those who overdosed on prescribed or illegal drugs. Let your stories be told from the voices of your surviving families and friends. Your stories may help alleviate the future grief and sorrow of individuals who believe they have somehow discovered some unique thrill, lifestyle or pastime that no one else has ever experienced and survived without consequences. Give these people who are willing to listen, hope, your compassion, prayers and understanding so they will have the courage to fight their addictions and lustful desires, before it may be too late for them too.
Next, I would like to address and give empathy and prayers to my sisters and brothers currently living with HIV, AIDS and one of the many STD’s; especially to those who can’t afford the expensive medication to treat their illness or who have been told by their doctors that they do not have long to live. Also, to my sisters who find themselves pregnant from rape or casual sex, who may be contemplating having an abortion or committing suicide: God will make a way for you and your child. To my sisters and brothers who are strung out on prescribed or illegal drugs, who want to quit, but can’t seem to win the battle of their addictions: know that help is on the way. To my former homosexual sisters and brothers, those who believe they may have some homosexual temptations and desires, and to those who find themselves out on the weekend carousing in the gay scene, hoping someone will want them: I pray you find rest and peace in knowing that you are already loved and accepted by God. To youngsters who have been forced to prostitute themselves or sell drugs to take care of their lazy, drug addicted parent/parents or pimps: I pray God will send someone to take you away from these environments and give you a chance at a better life soon. To my sisters and brothers sitting behind the steel bars of a jail cell, trust God that he will forgive you and give you peace of mind in knowing that you are still his child and he will set you free to love wherever you are.
When you have found the love, peace and comfort from God, please tell your stories, so others will know and see the faces of real people, who can tell them the truth about the consequences of making unwise choices that they are now living in or contemplating as part of their future. Let them know how it took these horrendous situations to occur in your life, to help you find a loving God who loves you unconditionally. People in America today may not want to hear your story coming from the mouth of church folks, their own parents or even their friends, but they may listen to you, and realize that Jesus Christ really does love them and is willing to forgive anyone who asks, and, He will set them free.
People this is America I am talking about, not some foreign country where there is no democracy, republic or constitution that exists to govern the people. This is America, not of the free or home of the brave, but America, the immoral, sex addicted, greedy and selfish country. A country that some Americans claim and believe to be the “Greatest Nation” on the earth. We wonder why the world is in the shape it currently finds itself in today; well look no farther than out your front doors. In every state, city, county, neighborhood, street and home in America, sins are being played out every day and night. We have become the example to the world, thanks to cable television and the Internet. Now the whole world is as crazed as America. And we want other countries to behave more like us? Are we crazy? The world is acting out exactly like they see Americans and Europeans acting, and we want them to stop? What about us? Today we have more murders, sick people (mentally and physically), abortions, homosexuals, addicts (drug and alcohol), prostitutes, illiterate people, homeless, hungry children, abused women and children, people in prisons, suicides and the list goes on and on.
America’s population is small in comparison to many countries in the world, yet we lead the world in some of most horrible crimes and sexual immorality. How and why can that be?
We tell ourselves that we are a Christian nation; at least that is what I keep hearing the media tell us. Do we even know what it means to be a Christian? I hope my story has explained the state of this country and the church, which is supposed to be the example and have the solutions for the world’s ills. May God bless us and give us time to repent and help as many people as we can to know the truth, before it is too late. You decide, crazy or not?
We need to stop looking to others for the answer to our problems and concerns. We need only to look in the mirror and say “I am the answer”, by the grace of God.
Good night and May God have mercy on America.
