Little Richard was very unhappy. In fact, he was inconsolable. Earlier in the day his dad had scolded and grounded him for playing in the busy street in front of their house. Now, after dinner, his mom had denied his request for a second helping of his favorite dessert.
“No, sweetheart,” she had said, “you have had your dessert. You can have some more tomorrow.” “Nobody loves me,” he shouted as he ran, tearfully, to his room.
Most of us have had times in our lives when we have felt a little bit like Richard. Maybe a family member acted in a manner that made us feel unappreciated. Perhaps a friend betrayed or deserted us. Whatever the circumstances, we felt unloved, abandoned or uncared for. Like Richard, we were inclined to feel like “nobody loves me.”
