I looked at the doctor in the middle of my rage and screamed “My baby is not brain dead! I refuse to accept this! God is going to help her!” I frantically looked around the nightmare room wondering why nobody was joining my plea in Angelica’s defense. Pastor was sobbing heart wrenching tears. I remember stroking his back telling him that Angelica would be alright. God was God, right? He was still in the miracle-working business wasn’t he? He wouldn’t let Angelica die. She was only 14. She loved God and God loved her. She danced for Him so how could this be happening? My entire world came crashing down, I felt like I too had died. Every fiber of my being froze. I felt dead physically, emotionally, and mentally. I imagined Calvary and how Jesus felt knowing that there was no escaping the fate that awaited Him. Just like there was no escaping this fate that awaited the Nappi family. A fate that involved living life without Angelica.

About the Author
Dawn Nappi grew up in Bayville, New York and received her BA and MA from Dowling College. She achieved her PhD. from Capella University in Leadership and Higher Education and currently teaches within the Central Islip District. She is the mother of four beautiful children, Nicolette, Joseph, Avellino and Angelica in Heaven. She and her husband Joseph have been married for 23 years. Dr. Nappi works with Madd, Long Island in helping victims of drunk/drugged driving. She currently resides in Holbrook, NY with her family and their three dogs.
