It looked as though life just had it set up so that a kid could never really enjoy himself. There was always something to do! “Always something to do,” Leroy said out loud as he placed the milk on the table and handed his grandmother the change. “Boy, you just hush. Wait until you get to be a man. Then you’ll really have to work.” Leroy started to answer his grandmother back, but thought better about it, remembering the last time he got smart and the quick frown she gave him. So he kept it to himself, thinking all the while about how he didn’t even want to be a man. He just wanted to be Leroy as he was now and play in the yard. That’s why he loved the summer. There wasn’t any school in the summer and a kid had nothing to do but play all day. Leroy thought to himself about how he couldn’t wait for the summer. When the weather was hot there were a whole lot of little crawling things running around the yard that a boy could play with. Right then he just contented himself with fooling around the azalea bush, giving it a good shake once in a while for fun. Suddenly, Leroy heard a sound like a low flying plane ...”

About the Book
Leroy and the Honeybee is an urban tale of a little boy who would rather play than assist his grandmother with errands. As with children, Leroy’s thoughts are immersed in a world of carefree fun until, one day, life surprises him. Literally out of the blue, Leroy encounters a small wonder, and his senses are awakened! His explorations reach new heights he could not have imagined as he encounters places that are rarely seen by human eyes, and learns vital secrets that are almost never realized. About the Author
D.D. Johnson is an ordained Minister, Pastor and co-Founder of an inner city Mission Church. With years of seasoned experience in educational research and classroom teaching at all levels, she tells this story with a profound, moral lesson for today’s children. Johnson began her storytelling journey as a mother sharing vivid portrayals of exciting adventures with her own children, either by reading her own creative writing or through bedtime recitations of literary classics. Surrounded by loving family, community and church members, her storytelling skills are continuously touching lives. Johnson lends her multi-faceted insight to this wonderful story; as an artist and theatre ministry director, and an alumna of Hunter College and Columbia University, her understanding of child development and psychology, creative and performing arts, and community outreach have blended harmoniously to bring forth this delightful tale.
