The Lord Is My Light

“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.” ~John 1:6-7

Have you ever used a highlighter when you were studying? Why did you highlight certain passages? More than likely it was because those words or phrases were important and they stood out and spoke to you. You wanted to remember them; to be able to easily refer back to them and the message they represented so that you could share them with others.

The message of Salvation is the most significant message ever communicated to mankind. John the Baptist said of himself that, “He (himself) was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that light.” (italics are mine)

John’s ministry was to “highlight” the ministry and gospel of Jesus. He was to make sure that others knew of the importance of Jesus and what He came to bring.

The dictionary defines the word highlight as this, “a representative part: an exemplary extract from a larger work that, along with others, is meant to represent it.” I can think of no better way to illustrate our calling as Christians. We are an extract from a larger work, and we along with others are meant to represent Christ himself, pointing others, not to ourselves, but to God.
