We are instructed by Christ to guard against the deception of the days leading up to His return. We are also instructed to watch and be ready, but what is it exactly that we are to watch for and be ready for and guard against? What are the signs of the time of His return?
Jesus answers this question in Matthew 24. The events he describes there also correlate to the sequential opening of the seven seals and provide a synopsis of events in a chronological order. We can also get a feel for the nearness of His return by looking at those things that the Bible says will be in place during the last days and then identify trends that are moving in that direction.
Signs of the Time – Multinational World Government
The world government that precedes the return of Christ is described in the prophecy of the great statue in Daniel 2 as the feet of iron and clay.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. Daniel 2:41-43
What we see in the above passage is a break from the traditional sovereign single nation / state type of kingdom. Those which were identified previously in the prophecy were done so with a single material, i.e. gold, silver, etc. This final world kingdom is different, however, in that it is a conglomerate of nations as indicated by the symbolism used and how it’s explained.
The multinational, multicultural kingdom described above is already in place. It had its beginning shortly after the end of World War 2 with the creation of the United Nations. It is around the end of the war that I suspect that the first seal was opened. This would correspond to the fallen angel’s release from the abyss spoken of in Revelation 17:8.
The scope of the U.N. is global. When it was first founded in 1945 there were 51 member states. Presently, 193 of the 196 nations are members. It certainly qualifies as a multinational world government and is a sign that the Lord’s return draws near.
This type of global government is not an end in itself, but is rather a means to an end. The evil angel prince behind the scenes, the beast, uses this government to set the stage for the revealing of the false prophet. One of his goals is to create a global economy which the false prophet will ultimately control. This world government will facilitate the changes necessary to make that happen. Its push toward globalization and the intertwining of the economies of the world serves to further that goal. Whenever it has served its purpose, the U.N. will give way to the brief reign of the 10 leaders and ultimately to the kingdom of the false prophet.

We are instructed to be ready and alert for Christ’s return, but just what does that mean?
Jesus gives us the signs to look for that would indicate that His return is near. We can also observe the political, economic, and moral trends and compare them to what the Bible says will be in place in the last days.
The seven seals provide a framework for the events of the last days and parallel the signs that Jesus gave us in Matthew. Prophecies in Daniel describe the final world kingdom and its transition into a dictatorship. Revelation talks about a mark that is required to buy or sell anything.
This book puts it all together in a succinct way that is easy to follow so that we might know the signs and be ready for His return.
About the Author
He became a Christian during his first enlistment in the USAF during the Cold War and has had an interest in biblical prophecy ever since. Most of his biblical learning and studying has taken place in an independent Baptist church. His professional training is in the IT field. He has been married for over thirty years and has five children.
