Spiritual Indentions That Matter

"One Step at a Time": Life is a journey, a pilgrimage. Much of life's time is spent getting from one place to another. Someone once said that we are so busy getting from where we've been to where we are going that we lose appreciation of where we are. Many times long and strenuous leaps are taken in life due to lapses of constant involvement along the way. Most children, along the way of childhood, read the story of a race between Brer Rabbit and the turtle. Brer rabbit, having the skill of speed, engaged successfully for a time. Monopolizing on the turtle's lack of speed, Brer rabbit would stop for intervals of rest. Slowly but surely the turtle maintained constancy of pace that won the contest. Life has a way of teaching the importance of constancy. The package of coffee filters reminds us daily of what can be accomplished by taking one step at a time. One by one each day a filter is used, until one day it dawns upon us that the package needs replacement. Other reminders attest to the fact that paced constancy finally reaches its goal; one step at a time. Actually, this consistent process works efficiently, and with ease. Someone has said, “Life by the yard is hard; by the inch it's a cinch.” Constancy of the step by step process in the area of religion proves successful. It yields amazing results. Take Bible study for instance. Reading a few verses each day and meditating on them; doing this consistently from day to day, one step at a time, eventually brings to the Christian a pretty good knowledge of God's word. Engaging constancy and consistency into what one does, taking one step at a time bears positive result. A father once gave his son this good advice; “The saw that keeps on sawing is the saw that saws the wood.” Forget big leaps in Bible study and in Christian service. Take one step at a time, consistently and regularly. You will be pleasantly surprised at what you accomplish.
