It wiggled in her tummy,
a mistake she could not bring herself
to destroy,
though the devil gnashed his teeth
and the world cried out for blood.
Her friends had left her.
Her family abandoned her.
And the storm grew louder outside
the rundown apartment she called home.

her “mistake” was born
alone in a vicious world,
hungry for its flesh.
The phone woke him at midnight.
The doc said his number was
the only identification on her.
His heart felt heavy
driving down to the corner’s office
to identify the body.
Why didn’t she tell him?
It had only been that one night.
He couldn’t take back those
four shots of whiskey he had,
and she had such kind blue eyes.
He took the elevator up to
the maternity ward when he was finished.
He stood behind that single sheet of glass
and watched the child sleep alone in its crib.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”

About the Book
In the beginning, he was born into a harsh unforgiving world. Abandoned by his earthly father, he wandered through the graveyards of his life searching for truth and meaning.
