4 “F’s” and 4 “C’s”
Beyond the three major areas of a marriage involving one man, one woman and their relationship there are four areas which begin with ‘F’ and four attitudes which begin with the letter ‘C’ where problems may arise. These eight areas either make or break a marriage. Every problem I have encountered in the past 45 years of helping marriages succeed has fallen under one of these eleven possibilities. For this reason I plan to deal first with each of these topics in the following pages. I trust they will help to make your marriage meaningful. The four areas to examine which begin with the letter ‘F’ are: FAMILY, the one you come from and the one you plan to make; FAITH, which includes your view and relationship with your God as well as future goals; FINANCES, where we find too much or too little makes little difference in the stress to make it stretch; FIMILARITY is the last area which although intended for as a dreamy pleasure may become a nightmare.
Necessary attitudes to consider beginning with ‘C’ are: COMMITMENT is a foundation which must be protected from the starting gate to the finish line of marriage; CARING in a variety of situations must be clearly sent and received by each party in a marriage; COMMUNICATION issues on various levels can break down relationships and if poorly done breaks up marriages or skill in communication builds us up to a higher plane; CHANGE comes for every couple and from several directions. It must be guarded to be constructive for with every significant change in life the marriage contract must be reworked.
God established the design of marriage and set the system in motion in a garden wedding at Eden. What was started back then continues today for better and hopefully not for the worst. Read: Psalm 23; John 10:10

About the Author
Jerry Adamson served as a pastor for 38 years and earned a doctor of ministry from Grace Theological Seminary in Winnona Lake, Indiana. He currently operates Shepherd Staff Counseling and teaches at Simmons College in Louisville, Kentucky. He and his wife, Judy, have three adult children and five grandchildren. He is also the author of Adamson Family Fables and Christmas Makes the Whole World Sing.
