The Providence and Grace of God

The first year as a single mom was the hardest. One month, I was short $240.00, what I needed to pay my rent. I had tithed my last ten dollars. I had no idea how I was going to get the extra money I needed to pay my bills. During the time I was in the Women's Shelter, just a few months earlier, the Lord had given me a scripture. The Word says: "I was young and now I am old, but I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or their seed begging bread." Psalm 37:25.

I knew I would need to trust God to provide. Real faith is believing when a situation seems impossible.

I was in church one Sunday morning and I was sitting down next to a woman whom I had never seen before. We talked some before the service and she was telling me how her mom was sick and I shared with her my mom had recently died. I told her to cherish the time she still had with her mama. A few minutes later, with tear-filled eyes, she shows me a envelope with Psalm 37 written on the outside. She asked me if that verse meant anything to me. I told her that the Lord had given me that verse at a very difficult time in my life. I quoted some of the scriptures from that passage. She knew nothing about my shelter experience or my immediate need for rent money. She then hands me the envelope and says: "I believe this is for you!" The Lord had impressed upon her heart to give that envelope to someone in connection with Psalm 37.

I decided not to open it until I got home. Later on at my house, I reached for the envelope and to my surprise discovered there was in it, to the penny, $240.00
