I could probably write an entire book on all the ways credit cards are dangerous. At the same time, if you know how to use them, they can not only help you, they can actually make "you" money. I will cover as many areas as I can to help you through the ins and the outs of all that is the world of credit cards. We covered the secured credit card earlier while discussing how to build credit so we won't revisit that.
Before I get into positive and negative credit card ownership, let me touch on a few things. It can be tempting to take every offer that comes your way, but they are not all created equal, and they are not always what you need. The number one credit card fail is the retail store card. We have all been offered these cards to get a percent off of our purchase. In the moment we are tempted to jump on that train and ride it all the way to the station. However, the fine print will reveal quite a high interest rate and more often than not, you will be excluded from future discounts by a host of exclusions. You will also incur a hard inquiry on your credit report that will pull your score down for a few months. The trap here is to get you hooked with the discount and hope you make future purchases that may accrue interest. If you visit a particular store often and make frequent purchases, investigate the card thoroughly to see if it will work for you. Be sure to always pay the card off each month or any discount you received was of no benefit.

About the Author
J.R. Norfleet grew up on a family farm in rural North Carolina. A High School diploma was as high an education needed in the area. There was not a need to seek higher education unless you were willing to move. Prior to finding job security, there were many temporary, fruitless jobs. J.R. started at the bottom like so many must do in order to find something more. Debt became inevitable and sometimes unbearable. Going without became as much of a normal thing as hitting the clock and cashing the paycheck. Over time, a management position in a retail grocery store is where J.R. landed. That job only came through a lot of hard work and over-achieving. With blood, sweat and tears came financial relief.
It is here J.R. began to make financial mistakes. With money comes the desire to spend it. For J.R. it was cars that did the most financial damage. With age came the desire to straighten up for future home ownership. This is where the most lessons were learned and the most blessing came. J.R. has been at the bottom and rose up to the middle. The top may not be in the future, but for all the average Joe’s out there, the top will never be in our future.
This is my first book as an author. If I am blessed, it may not be the last.
