On a delightful afternoon, with a cool breeze blowing, a young couple wandered through a massive field of yellow flowers. Butterflies flitted about, drinking nectar as they landed upon the delicate petals. On the other side of the field was a beach. When the young couple reached the shore, they both removed their sandals and began to stroll bare footed along the sand at the water’s edge. The warm wet sand squished between their toes. Diana reached over and took Fred's hand. He smiled. They walked, silently at first. The waves lapped softly at their feet. They walked and laughed, enjoying every moment they spent together. Finding a clean dry spot, they laid in the sand, looking up into the clear blue sky filled with terns and gulls. They watched several sailboats on the water, moving slowly by. They watched the sea gulls gliding on the updrafts. Diana and Fred were in love. Fred asked Diana, "Why is it that they don't use golf balls in Heaven?" Diana replied, "I don't know. Why is it that they don't use golf balls in Heaven?" Fred answered, "Because they might get a birdie!" Diana said, turning towards Fred, “You're so funny Fred, that's why I love you so much. I just love your humor. I love your caring heart and the way you make me feel. I truly appreciate spending time with you like this.”

Two soul mates in heaven on a beach. The young couple reached the shore. They both removed their sandals and began to stroll barefooted at the water’s edge. Diana reached over and took Fred’s hand. He smiled. Diana and Fred were in love. They promised to find each other, to share their love and their lives on earth.
Tina, the departure station operator, said, “It is time for you to leave, Fred.”
Fred asked, “What about Diana?”
“Diana will leave shortly after you, don’t worry,” Tina reassured him.
Fred opened the door. He turned for one last look at Diana. “Remember, you are my soul mate.” Fred walked through the doorway, disappearing into the gray mist …
Holding on to her husband’s hand, Sheila screamed as she pushed even harder. Tim’s fingers grew dark red as Sheila pushed the final time. “You can relax now. You did a great job,” Dr. Jones replied. “You have a beautiful little boy.”
Fred and Diane pass by each other many times in life, without knowing they were meant for each other.
After graduation, Fred proposed to Sue, his high school sweetheart.
Will Fred and Diane ever meet? Will they ever be soul mates on earth? The story shows us that when our faith is weak, God is always there to help us through our struggles.
About the Author
William Duane Ogle started writing in 2007. He wanted to share stories with his children and grandchildren.
He grew up in Hampton, Virginia and graduated in 1969 from Kecoughtan High School. In August 1969, William was drafted into the army. He served for nine years on active duty and six years in the Army Reserves. At age twenty-two, William got married and had two sons, Timothy and Joseph.
William got divorced in March 1995 and remarried in May 1997 to his current wife, Mary.
In 1999, he went back to college to get his bachelor’s degree in business. He graduated in May 2003, while working a full-time job as a quality manager and remodeling his house. He retired in 2011.
