Some people see needing God as a weakness, as a crutch that they are too strong or too proud to need. Yet, even if we consider ourselves strong, we are commanded to be strong in the Lord.
Memorize and meditate on 1 Chronicles 29:12, and marvel at the attributes of God contained in this verse.

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the Lord!
? In your own words, why is the “Woe” pronounced on those in this verse?
? Why would it be natural to rely on “horses,” “chariots,” and “horsemen” for strength? What do people rely on for strength in our culture today?
2 Chronicles 16:9a For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.
? Do you think the Lord wishes to “show Himself strong”?

Identify circumstances in which you “rely on horses” and “trust in chariots” instead of looking to “the Holy One of Israel” (God), and determine to reverse this trend!
If you are not seeing that the Lord is showing Himself strong on your behalf, examine the loyalty of your heart to Him.

? According to this verse, in what two items does the man who is cursed trust?
? What is characteristic of this man’s heart?
Psalms 33:16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
? According to this verse, what does not save or deliver a king? A mighty man?
? If kings are not saved by having large armies, and mighty men are not delivered by strength, then on what do you think their victories depend?

Scripture does not just address human physical strength but mental and emotional strength as well; what we may perceive as our “grit” or “determination.” Ask God to reveal to you when you are relying on your own ideas, perceptions, and ingenuity, and ask Him to replace your thoughts with His.
Realize that we are supposed to see the Lord’s demands on our life as impossible! How else would we know that we need His strength?
