“He’s not here right now, I’ll tell him you called.” Those words are forever burned into my memory as I suddenly realized life as I knew it would never be the same. I had been the caregiver for my mother , who was suffering from dementia, for just over a year. I had the opportunity to take some time off and spend with a friend in Panama City, Florida. I stopped at a rest stop in Columbia, South Carolina to call home to let mom know I was only a few hours away and would be home soon.
I told her it was Roger and I would be home in just a few hours, her response floored me. She told me to hold on and she would see if “Roger” was there. She returned to the phone to tell me he was not there right now, but she would let him know I had called. I quietly said, “Moma, it’s me” as the reality of her condition began to sink in.

About the Book
We all face difficult times. Being a Christian does not mean we are immune from tragedies and physical and emotional pain. Even so, the way we react to any of these circumstances can forge our future and the future of others as well.
Sleeping with the Angels is the story of one woman’s struggles through difficult times and illness that left a lifelong lesson to family and friends. Author Roger Sigmon tells the story of his mother’s final weeks and how she impacted those around her by showing them how to live.
Life has often been called a journey, not a destination. Sleeping with the Angels shows how that journey’s trials and challenges, as well as its happy times, can be opportunities for learning and teaching. Sometimes, at the end of the journey of life, death comes not as an enemy, but as a friend to release a diseased mind or body from its prison.
About the Author
Roger R. Sigmon has experienced a variety of ministries. His experiences include worshipping in house churches in Southeast Asia, working with orphans in Moldova, and working for various disaster relief projects. He has served churches in many capacities, including as a Sunday school teacher and a life-group coordinator. He currently lives in Tennessee.
