“What on earth are you talking about shining at you from the pine straw?”
Anna just knew this was one more joke Grandpa Bill was playing on her. She thought about calling his bluff—but decided to let him have his fun.
Grandpa Bill said, “Anna, God has tucked something tiny and shiny into our world that I didn’t know about before now. So, tonight when it’s dark and all are in bed, you and I will sneak out to the trees and I’ll show you one more thing God has done”.
Anna was a bit afraid but she had learned long, long ago that she could trust Grandpa Bill to keep her safe. She decided to go into the dark and let him play another joke on her.

About the Book
ONE GOOD THING is a beautiful story that builds on a strong relationship between Anna and Grandpa Bill as he leads her into a deep appreciation of nature and God through a practical joke. A nighttime excursion with a crooked-nose flashlight leads to seeing thousands of spider eyes in the pine straw. The two characters develop through conversation. The joy of shared good things helps Anna deal with Grandpa Bill’s death and brings her closer to God. Each page includes beautiful art that helps draw the reader into the story.

Lynda McCalman-Tabor is a retired educator who for decades designed and presented “Children’s Literature: A Springboard to Reading Skills,” a professional development workshop designed to lead educators in helping children become life-long readers. As CEO and owner of Educational Training Services of Mississippi, Lynda currently spends time helping school districts raise student academic levels.
About the Illustrator
Denise Deville is a lifelong resident of Natchitoches, Louisiana and graduate of Northwestern State University. . Denise was named winning artist for the 2008 Limited Edition Natchitoches Christmas Festival print, an honored guest artist in her local Art Gallery, and is currently a self-employed artist, “Art by Deville". She is quite proud to have illustrated her first children's book,"One Good Thing".
