Mark is the “blue-collar Gospel,” the “on-the-go” Gospel. It is a fast-paced report of the life of Jesus Christ much like today’s evening news. The word euthus (“immediately”) occurs forty-two times. The stress is on Jesus’ works rather than His words. The language of Mark reflects the Greek spoken in the marketplace rather than in the universities of the day. But Mark is not “Jesus Lite.” It is not a “Reader’s Digest Condensed” version of Jesus’ life and labor or the sixty-second “sound bite” that highlights major events in news broadcasts.

About the Author
Kenneth G. Hanna, BA, ThM, ThD, has taught for twenty years at Dallas Theological Seminary and currently serves as senior professor of Bible exposition and director emeritus at the Houston Campus of Dallas Seminary. He is the author of From Moses to Malachi: Surveying the Old Testament and numerous articles in Moody Monthly, mission periodicals, and the Christian Life Bible. He and his wife, Mary, have two children, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
