One day Niall the skunk was walking alone through the forest. While admiring the beauty of his surroundings he realized he needed a friend. “I am so lonely,” said Niall. “I have nobody to play with.” Sadly for Niall most of the forest animals did not want to be his friend. As a skunk his reputation for not smelling good preceded him. The other forest animals never even gave Niall the chance to talk to them. As soon as they saw his tell tale black and white coloring they ran the other way. Niall decided he would come up with a plan to make the other animals like him. All day long Niall thought and thought. At last Niall concluded that he would disguise himself so that he could make friends.

About the Book
Niall decides it is time to make friends. Unfortunately, as a skunk, this is not very easy. Then one day, a brilliant idea comes to him. He decides to disguise himself as another animal. Soon Niall is making friends and having a great adventure. Sadly for Niall, this adventure soon turns into a deadly encounter. This encounter will make him decide if lying about who he is really is the best idea. Niall must decide about being the skunk he was destined to be or to continue his masquerade and risk the lives of his new friends.
About the Author
Jayleen Hackmann lives in Yuma, Arizona, with her husband and two teenage daughters. She received her degree in English literature from Grand Canyon University. She works at a local charter school with students from grades six to twelve. The environment is ever-changing, making it an ideal place for her to work and get ideas for her stories. This story came out of watching students constantly trying to be something they were not. She wanted them to know that they are special just the way they are.
