The Potter’s Clay

I have always told myself that I would love to do pottery again. I loved being able to create things. This might be the time to make that happen or He might want me to explore different creative avenues. Consequently, I still have my tools that I used in that ceramics class over 17 years ago. I never had the heart to get rid of them; they have travelled with me through six different moves. Maybe, I have hoarding tendencies or maybe deep-down, I wanted to hang on to a time in my life that I created unique things. Is it the pottery or is it the idea of using the creative side of my brain? As I ponder these questions, I am reminded of my Creator, my Potter, my Heavenly Father; the one who created everything in the universe. He allows His creative side to shine every single day. If creativity is important to Him, then perhaps it should be more important to me and to you; His creation. I’m not saying, you all need to pick up a paintbrush and get busy. I’m saying that you could start examining your interests and likes and see what may or may not be missing. Or was there something from your past that brought joy to your life and it has been lost over time? Is there a creative element in your life or not. We all have creative elements in our life that you might not even realize.

Most jobs that come to mind have some sliver of creativity: chefs, moms and dads, teachers, grandmas and grandpas, computer programmers, movie makers, musicians, janitors, accountants, politicians, athletes, school bus drivers. Really, any job you can think of needs at least some element of creativity to be successful. As I think about this creative process of making an amazing piece of pottery out of nothing but a lump of clay, my mind is flooded by images, thoughts, revelations, and conversations with my Potter. My Heavenly Father or the Potter has been creating priceless pieces from the beginning of time. Each one of us has been individually fashioned for a great purpose just like the Potter fashions beautiful pottery pieces out of that clay. If we hang out with the Potter long enough and seek out that purpose, He will share it with us. He wants us to find out our purpose so that we can bring glory to Him and so that we will benefit the other pieces of His creation. Join me on this journey as we discover the process that the clay undergoes while it is being masterfully created by the ultimate Potter. It isn’t always easy for the clay, in fact, at times it is painful. I hope that you will see that you were carefully thought out and He has an amazing job for you to do. There is more to you than a lump of clay and if you are to realize your full potential you must spend time with the Potter to see where you fit into His grand design. There was an important reason why we were created in the first place.
