The Adventures of Matthew and Andy

The first time I met Andy was shortly after I started reading my Bible every day, the way Pastor Mark told us. I liked reading my Bible, but sometimes I had a hard time understanding what it meant.

Then Andy started showing up in my dreams.

Andy has a very special talent. He can go back in time!

And in my dreams he takes me with him. I just climb on his back, the same way I climb on my dad’s back when he acts like he is a horse! I’m sure we look funny. A short, blond headed fifth grade boy riding on the back of a short, chubby, red headed angel, with short little wings that flutter real fast!!!

Yes, I am sure that we look funny.

But that’s okay.

I sure am learning a lot about the Bible!

CHAPTER 1: THE CREATION ADVENTURE

I heard, “Climb aboard!”

Andy the angel said, “Let’s go see how the earth was made.”

In my dream I jumped on his back. His wings began to flutter so fast it reminded me of a humming bird. And off we went!

I don’t mind telling you that for the first several minutes it was pretty scary. I don’t know who gave Andy his license to fly, but God really needs to find out who it was and have a serious talk with him!

Have you ever played the game where you stand a baseball ball bat up on its end, place your head on the top of the bat, and spin in circles ten times, and then try to run to first base. You try your best to run in a straight line, but it’s like there’s a giant magnet that pulls you sideways.

That is what it was like flying with Andy! First we went one way, and then the other. And on top of his crazy flying skills, the tips of his wings kept brushing against my nose, which made me start sneezing. And every time I sneezed, we would go straight up in the air!

So we were going back and forth from side to side, and we were also going up and down! I felt like I was riding a roller coaster!

Finally Andy got things under control. Thank goodness! Because I was getting ready to throw up!

Once he sensed I was okay he asked me, “What did you read in your Bible last night?”

I said, “I started reading in the beginning, in the first chapter of Genesis.”

“Great!” Andy said. "That is where we still start our first adventure."

So off we flew, to see creation day.

The farther we flew, the darker it became, until we reached utter and complete darkness. It was so dark I could not see my hand in front of my face.

And it was cold! Bitter cold. The kind of cold that sinks into your skin and makes your bones hurt.

I was getting scared, so I leaned forward and whispered loudly in Andy’s ear, “Why is it so dark and cold?”

He replied, “Didn’t you read the first chapter of Genesis before you went to bed last night?”

“Yes.”

“Then you should remember how it said that in the beginning, God had created the heavens and the earth. And I how that at first the earth had no form, and it was covered in darkness. If it was dark, that meant there was no sun. And if there was no sun, there was no heat.”

“Okay, now I understand. But I wish you had warned me so I could have brought a coat!”

“Hey Matthew…”

“Yes.”

“You do realize this is a dream don’t you?”

“Yes….” “Then you are dreaming that you are cold!”

That helped a little bit. But the farther we flew, the darker it became, until I couldn’t even see Andy, right there beneath me!

And it sure was glad I had Andy’s feathers all around me because I know I would have frozen, dream or not!
