God’s Communication with Us
This attention to unconditional love and Faith brings to my mind the question of just how does God communicate his love and Faith in and for us, to us. In my study and analysis of this subject, I found one very outstanding reference: Rev. adam Hamilton, in his book “Making Sense of the Bible” has an excellent chapter on how God speaks to us and through us. He acknowledges that hearing an audible voice, although not impossible, seems at most very unusual. Rev. Hamilton describes his experiences of hearing God as “a flash of insight, a gentile persistent nudge, or occasionally as a conversation in his head”. Others i have talked to about hearing from God describe their hearing from God in similar ways. My experience has been much the same, that i have an emotional experience or feeling coming from my heart, mind and body telling me what I should do or that everything is all right.
One of my experiences of hearing from God was with regard to writing this essay. I had many reservations holding me back and keeping me from beginning to write. One day, as I was praying about whether or not to start writing, I had an emotional experience telling me to go ahead and start, that He would help me. So here I am, writing about love and Faith, for which I have no writing experience, but am writing from my heart with God’s help. And, amazingly, I have been able to express myself in unbelievable ways. There is no way I could be writing this alone, God must be helping me. Any expertise I have in writing was learned from engineering, technical and policy types of writing. This essay can only have come from my heart with God’s help. 18
My use of the word “observed” in the title of this essay “Unconditional Love and Faith Observed” was chosen because of my familiarity with C. S. Lewis’ book “A Grief Observed”. I believe the word “observed” correctly and accurately describes and expresses very well the content of both his book and my essay. Lewis’ descriptions of his experiences with grief regarding his wife are wonderful and they very eloquently express many of the same emotions and feelings of grief that I have experienced from both Carolyn’s and Donna’s passing. But my experiences of loving and loosing my dear wives dictates that I remember, think about, and write about the more positive side of my experiences and memories with regard to love, joy, peace and Faith.

About the Author
Bill Belknap was an engineer and worked at drilling and producing oil and gas wells. He ultimately became an oil company executive. Following retirement, he did consulting work and voluntary mission work for his church. He wrote this book to share how he learned to know and hear God.
