The Gospel Writers Introduce Jesus
Matthew 1:1; Mark 1:1; Luke 1:1-4; John 1:1-18
Who is Jesus Christ? Is He a prophet? Is He simply a good man? Is He the Messiah? Let’s look at what the Gospel writers say about Him. Jesus Christ (Christ means “Messiah” or “Anointed One”) is introduced as the Son of God, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham, and the Word of God. The Son of God indicates that He is divine. The Son of David describes Him as the promised Messiah. The Son of Abraham depicts Him as the fulfillment of the promises that God made to Abraham (see Galatians 3:19-25). The Word of God description is more complex.
The Word has existed from eternity. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” This declaration has always been true. The Word was not created: He is the Creator of all things.
Because God desired to enlighten humanity, He sent the Word to earth as a Human Being. The Word is Jesus Christ. He came to earth so that people could become God’s children, by believing in His name. Likewise, John the Baptist is sent by God to bear witness to the coming of Jesus. John points the people of his time to Jesus by acknowledging that Jesus is the Light sent by God. For the most part, the people to whom Jesus came did not receive Him. However, the ones who received Him proclaimed that He revealed the grace and truth of God. Through the Law of Moses, God revealed His grace and truth as He dealt with the children of Israel. However, His grace and truth are fully revealed to humanity through Jesus Christ. As a result, His followers behold the glory of Jesus and testify to the truth that He is the only begotten (unique) Son of God the Father.

About the Book
This devotional project, which is divided into four volumes, provides the reader with a chronological look at the Four Gospels, insights into each of the recorded accounts of the events in the life of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and the opportunity to apply this information to his or her life through each day’s Ponder Point. The use of these devotionals will enhance the reader’s walk with the Lord by enabling him or her to continue to grow in His “grace and knowledge” (2 Peter 3:18).
About the Author
Mike Folmer was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He attended St. Francis College—now St. Francis University—in Loretto, Pennsylvania, for two years in the early 1980s. After holding various jobs, he was accepted into Oral Roberts University’s School of LifeLong Education, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Church Ministries in 2008. In that same year, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, his current place of residence, to attend Oral Roberts University’s Graduate School of Theology and Missions. He earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Literature degree from that school in 2010. Currently, he is a member of Hope International Ministries, Tulsa, Oklahoma, serving the church as the adults’ Sunday school teacher.
