“Yes, baby, pancakes just for you.” “Hooray!” Then, Samuel started to sing. Pancakes, pancakes, just for me. Pancakes, pancakes, two or three. Pancakes, pancakes, light and sweet. Pancakes, pancakes, what a treat! Samuel’s mother laughed. “Well, sit down at the table. They’re just about ready,” she said.
Samuel hurried to take his seat at the kitchen table. His mother set down his plate of pancakes. “Oh boy, strawberries, too! Thank you, Mommy!” “You’re welcome, baby.”
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. It was Mr. Henry from next door. Into the kitchen came Oliver, Samuel’s friend.
“Hi, Samuel,” said Oliver. “Oh, hi Oliver. What are you doing here,” Samuel asked. “My mom is going to the hospital now to have the baby. Dad brought me here to wait until he comes back.” Oliver looked at Samuel’s pancakes. “Mmm, pancakes! I like pancakes. Can I share some with you?”
Share my pancakes? Samuel thought. What does he mean share? They’re my pancakes! Mommy made them just for me! Why did he have to come here?
Just then, Samuel remembered what he learned in Bible class at church. He learned about a boy sharing his two fish and five loaves of bread with Jesus (John 6:1-15). Jesus used the boy’s food to feed over 5,000 people! A miracle!

About the Book
This is a story about a little boy named Samuel who looks forward to his mother’s pancakes every Saturday morning. One Saturday, Oliver, his friend from next door, walks into his kitchen during breakfast. The pancakes are served up hot and they’re on the table, just for Samuel as usual. However, this time Oliver stands right there craving and looking at the delicious treat. What is Samuel to do? A familiar Bible story comes to mind and directs him on what he does next.
This is a story intended to depict and promote positive family and good neighbor dynamics. It also aims to show how a child can apply biblical truth to a “right now” situation.
About the Author
Renee Walker-David is happily married to her love, Marcel, and they have three lovely children together: Samuel, 4; Cecilia, 3; and Kyle, 1. Renee is a minister of children at her home church in New Rochelle, New York, and a teacher of middle-school science in New York City for more than twenty years. Renee holds a Master’s degree from Nyack Alliance Theological Seminary and a Master’s degree in education from Lehman College. She is currently creating a number of children’s church curricula for future publication, and this children’s book is her first of many.
