Owl took each hand and ventured out to better view along the branch’s path that thinly grew and grew. Upon arrival at a leaf as big as could be, Owl said, “Here we are!” They sat upon the tree. “Photosynthesis! The art of light becoming life, by harnessing energy beyond chaotic strife. This green leaf holds chlorophyll, an amazing compound turning sunlight into energy without even a sound. The chlorophyll’s workshop is called the chloroplast, taking red and blue light, leaving green to reflect the part of the light spectrum shining back at us, thereby adorning this lovely leaf in green dress.” All this made Turtle pause .. to think and to think. She lifted her face to the sun, seeming to smile and wink.

Turtle’s Turn is a curricular resource for all ages and may complement best second-grade through graduate levels. The author currently explores integration of this text in teacher education courses and research.
About the Author
Laura is a teacher education researcher studying interaction among the global and the local, and created this book on a visit home to Indiana while living in Beijing with her family and working at Beijing Normal University’s Center for Teacher Education Research. Laura now works with IU’s Center for International Education, Development, and Research.
