The television reporter glanced down at his notes. “Miss Chancellor, is it true that Miss Streeter was in the same cell in which Melvin Lancaster was murdered two nights ago?"
"Yes," Lisa Chancellor said. "That cell isn't visible from other cells or from my desk. It's secluded. We wouldn't have placed a fourteen year old girl in a cell with no privacy."
"I see. Is there a way in or out of the jail except beside your desk?"
"Yes. There's also a back door. Officers bring the prisoners into the courtroom through that door."
"And who would have a key to that door?"
Lisa shrugged. "One key hangs on a nail inside the Judges' Chamber.”
"So someone could have taken Miss Streeter out through that door?"
"I suppose. That's possible."
"Could someone come in off the street?"
"No. The hallway to that door leads to the alley."
"Who uses that door?"
Lisa ticked them off on her fingers, "Jail staff, the sheriff's department, and the judges."
"They all have keys to the alley door?"
"Yes." Lisa huffed an exasperated sigh.
"So any number of people could have taken Miss Streeter out that door?"
"Yes."
Lyle clicked off the TV. He didn't need to hear any more. The missing piece of the puzzle had just dropped into place.
"Stormy, what have you done?" he whispered to himself.
He didn't have to check his keys to know his key to the back door was missing. Anger tangled with fear. Now he knew why Stormy wasn't upstairs in bed. And he knew who had taken Melody Streeter out of that cell. He knew why Stormy had sounded so desperate when she called.
What he didn't know was where his wife had gone, or whether she intended to ever come back.

About the Author
Carol Gimbel has been writing in some form most of her adult life. Her weekly cooking column appeared in an Oklahoma City newspaper for eight years. She is a frequent contributor to Guideposts magazine. During her career in radio she wrote countless ads and stories for the news department. It was during an interview with the district attorney on her daily talk show, This, That, and the Other, that the idea for Raven’s Song was born. She resides in Oklahoma City with her husband and two dogs. When she isn’t cooking, she’s usually reading, writing or riding. She’s crazy about horses.
