Snowman Jacks

There once was a snowman named Jacks Who wanted to follow the tracks Of a rabbit so lively That ran around daily And called him to join in the fun.

To get Jacks’ attention And break his hesitation Rabbit bit at Jacks’ toes And nudged with its nose Until Jacks groaned in frustration.

"I see you hop here and there. Do you really go everywhere? What do you see that is so much fun To make me run 'til the day is done? Tell me why I should follow you."

Rabbit screamed, "Now you're talking. You can do more than just go walking. You can jump, skip, turn, and twirl See a lot of the whole wide world." Jacks took off without a hint or a word.

The broom in his hand Became a magic wand That brought life to his imagination And changed his lonely condition. He escaped the rabbit's limited realm.

Jacks’ heart hammered and pounded, His feet rhythmically bounded Across hill and valley and moor. He twirled and jumped as never before And left merry rabbit behind all alone.

He swung in the trees, Laughed in the breeze, Jumped over streams and fences, Took numerous chances To impress wide-eyed children at play.

He slid down steep slopes, Went bumpety-bump on his toes. The long scarf went flying The stocking cap trying To maintain a hold on its host.

As Jacks’ world grew larger He ran faster and faster Abandoned all caution and sense Until he slammed into a fence And burst into a billion sun-flecked clumps of snow.
