The bus emptied out and all gathered near the waters edge for the ceremony. Soon Jen began but after a couple of minutes was forced to pause. The focus changed. A mama moose and her calf strolled out of the woods, into the lake, easing their way over and behind the wedding party. The animals paused and stared for a moment as if to share Nature’s blessing upon the event, then moved on. A moment of wonder at Wonder Lake.
Soon the vows were concluded, the ceremony joyously wrapped up. A second witness was needed for the license. I quickly stepped up and inked my name on the document as a footnote in the history and happenings of Denali. A bit of awesomeness in what is truly God’s Country.
I have often wondered about special moments. You know, Spirit moments, God moments. What are they like? When do they happen? What are the circumstances that cause them to come to pass? I have heard many testify of unique visitations when the Spirit of God seemed to be especially close to them; a sense of Holy Presence. I have no reason to doubt such an arrival.
At a recent Sunday worship service, not only me, but the entire congregation of several hundred listened with rapt attention as the Celebration Choir of over fifty voices lifted the God-inspired lyrics of an anthem to heavenly realms and the people along with it. It was a God moment which the
made it easy for me to preach about “The joy of the Lord.”
Then there was great grandchild number eight, a girl, who was born over a year ago. She was given the same name as my mother. When I finally got to see and hold her some six months later, I held her tightly, lifted her toward heaven, telling her that she belonged to Jesus. A Spirit moment, if you will, when words tapered off and were no longer needed. God was there!
For you, it might have been the night when the one nearest and dearest to you turned the corner and began the road back to recovery. Or perhaps when a beloved child hugged your neck, kissed you, telling you how much they loved you and how much you meant to them. Maybe tears slipped down your cheeks as you closed your eyes and breathed a God-felt prayer of thanksgiving. Then you lingered in the moment, feeling richly blest.
